Basically swing trading is the art and science of profiting from securities short term price movements spanning a few days to a few weeks – one or two months and the most. As a swing trader there are a number of securities that you can invest in, they are.

? Public equity (stock) – you’re probably already familiar with this category. Swing traders often trade stocks exclusively because of the variety, ease and familiarity of trading stocks. What also makes stocks the most appealing security is the abundant amount of information available on the companies whose stocks you want to trade.

? Closed end funds – these are basically mutual funds that trade on a secondary exchange. Closed end funds are priced according to the supply and demand for shares of that particular fund. ? Fixed income markets – these markets include securities issued by governments on the federal, state and local level, as well as those issued by corporations. The value of these securities depends on the interest rates, inflation and other factors. Because fixed income markets tend to have less volatility most swing traders avoid them.

? Futures contracts – contracts to buy and sell underlying assets on a certain date at a certain price are known as futures contracts. Futures are traded on commodities and financial instruments such as equity indexes. Futures exchanges require traders to post a margin of 5-15% of the contracts value.
